In the spring of 2020 doulas across the nation were restricted for a time from attending hospital births with their clients. When hospital visitation guidelines were formed by the Indiana Hospital Association, allowing Certified Birth Doulas hospital access as members of the maternity care team, the lack of education among local birth doulas was more apparent than in times past.

A few Certified Birth Doulas gathered for the first time in September of 2020 with this is mind. Five women who believed that our community deserved better began meeting monthly and finding ways to improve Indiana’s poor maternity outcomes as well as setting a higher standard for the doula profession.
Community Doula Collective was formed as a 501c3, launching to the public in December of 2020 and set their vision and mission to improve maternity experiences and outcomes in Northeast Indiana by connecting growing families to quality resources and support.
